Why Choose AGR?
Arizona Gate Refinishing does a complete restoration, we don't just slap stain on your existing slats or paint over the existing paint on the frame without prepping the metal and call it 'good' as some do! As the old saying goes, "the satisfaction of a good deal fades much more quickly than the satisfaction of a job well done!" and this statement is never more true when it comes to gate and metal fence refinishing!
Arizona Gate Refinishing is an employee owned business, this makes all the difference in the world because every employee has a stake in the company's success! And because each employee has "skin in the game" they are more highly motivated and take customer satisfaction and quality much more seriously than an employee with no stake in the success of the company.
Arizona Gate Refinishing has been awarded Angie's List Super Service Award two years running for 2015 and 2016!
This prestigious national award is only given to 5% of businesses and we achieved this award two years in a row!
Thanks to all of our satisfied customers and employees for helping AGR achieve this honor two years running!
At AGR we take pride in providing excellent customer service and a quality finished product and we are especially proud to be A-Rated on Angie's List, A-rated with the BBB of Arizona and having received Angie's List Super Service Award two years running (2015 and 2016).
Comparing Apples to Apples
One of the challenges Arizona Gate Refinishing faces is educating our customers on what we provide when it comes to customer service, the quality of our finished product and the price so that they may make an informed decision. An important part of making an informed decision is ensuring you are comparing apples-to-apples when deciding on a service provider and knowing what you want to achieve in your refinishing project. With so many choices it is sometimes difficult for consumers to determine if they are getting a good deal or not. To muddy the waters even further "getting a good deal" is very subjective and depends on what the consumer is looking to achieve and which criteria they use to determine if they are getting a good deal. For example some consumers look only at price to determine if they are getting a good deal, some look only at customer service, some its quality and others it is all three or some combination of price, customer service and quality.
What do you want to achieve?
Another important factor besides customer service, price and quality is what do you want to achieve?
Lets say you the customer are placing your home on the market and simply want to increase your home's curb appeal to help sell the home. In this instance the longevity and overall quality of the refinish is probably not of much concern since you are selling and simply want to increase the appeal of your home at a minimal cost. In such cases a minimalist approach is best.
Selling your home? Take a minimalist approach:
The most costly aspect of refinishing is the amount of labor hours needed to properly prepare the surfaces of metal and wood to ensure a longer lasting and quality finished product. If you are selling your home then a minimalist approach (minimal prep work) will reduce your overall costs while still increasing the appeal of your home to sell. For those taking a minimalist approach we offer our The Works Standard refinishing service.
Not Selling Your Home? Don't Cut Corners:
If you will be staying in your home for several years a minimalist approach to your refinishing project is not the way to go. Cutting corners by not doing proper prep work when it comes to refinishing your gates or metal fencing is not the best way to go if you plan on staying in your home for a while. Proper preparing of the metal and wood surfaces is the best way to ensure a longer lasting quality finished product for both the metal and wood. The drawback to the "don't cut corners" approach is the higher cost due to the increased amount of labor needed to properly prepare the surfaces for paint and stain. Again, if you plan on staying in your home for a while then the "don't cut corners" approach is the way to go and for that we recommend our The Works Premium refinishing service.
With the above in mind a good place to start is to have a clear picture of what you want to achieve. Do you want a less expensive minimalist approach to sprucing up your gates and wrought iron fencing or do you prefer to not cut corners and pay a little more for a higher quality, longer lasting finished product?
Whatever approach you take Arizona Gate Refinishing can provide you with the refinishing services you want to meet your needs and budget.
Beware of the $50 Gate Refinishing "Deal!"
At Arizona Gate Refinishing if we had a dollar for every time we've had to fix $30-$50 gate refinishing "deals" we'd be rich! Anyone with a paint brush and some stain can come by and slap it on your gate for $30, $40 or even $50, but what are you really getting? Answer; a poor job that doesn't last and more headaches down the road!
Anyone charging just $30-$50 to refinish the wood on your gate isn't going to prep the wood by sanding it, it's too labor intensive. In addition, they will not buy new wood slats, cut them to fit and stain/seal them, too costly and labor intensive and they would lose money on the deal. Also, they aren't going to remove the old slats from the gate frame before staining, nor will they tape off to avoid getting stain on the gate finish as both would be too labor intensive.
Instead they just slap some stain/sealer on the old wood slats and if the slats are not sanded prior to staining/sealing it will not absorb into the wood properly, but instead it will sit on the surface of the old stain/sealer and will begin to yellow, crack and peel in no time, especially in the Arizona heat!
As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words! Here's a couple of pictures of a cheap refinish job that lasted only one Arizona Summer!
But this is just the beginning of the $50 gate refinishing "deal!" The stain/sealer they are getting on your gate frame will dull the frame's finish and eventually begin to discolor the metal as the Arizona sun bakes it onto your gate frame's finish!
When you've noticed how discolored and faded your gate frame looks in such a short time (and it won't take long) and you decide to have a company like Arizona Gate Refinishing come out to refinish the frame you will be disappointed to find out it will cost (at a minimum) an extra $100 to $150 to prepare the metal frame for painting.
Here's an example picture of a gate frame showing both rust and baked on sealer/stain
Why so much more to prep the frame for painting? Having to remove the stain on the finish cannot be done with wet sanding as the stain/sealer on the frame will gum up sand paper. So instead of a simple wet sanding to prep the gate frame for paint there are only one of two things Arizona Gate Refinishing can do to correct this problem:
- The entire gate must be stripped down to the bare metal or
- A solvent has to be used to scrub the frame and eliminate the stain/sealer from the surface before wet sanding
Both solutions are very labor intensive and that's why it can cost an additional $100 to $150. In fact there have been times where we found the frame is so badly covered with baked on stain/sealer that Arizona Gate Refinishing recommended the customer have a new gate installed as the additional cost of preparing the metal frame would cost more than installing a new gate!
Don't learn about the $50 gate refinishing "deal" the hard way, instead save money and prevent future headaches by having Arizona Gate Refinishing do it right the first time! You'll be glad you did!
